Impact of New Laboratory Studies of N2O5 Hydrolysis on Global Model Budgets of Tropospheric Nitrogen Oxides, Ozone, and OH

چکیده
[1] We investigate the impact of new laboratory studies of N2O5 hydrolysis in aerosols on global model simulations of tropospheric chemistry. We use data from these new studies to parameterize the reaction probability (gN2O5) in the GEOS-CHEM global model as a function of local aerosol composition, temperature, and relative humidity. We find a much lower global mean gN2O5 (0.02) than commonly assumed in models (0.1). Relative to a model simulation assuming a uniform gN2O5 = 0.1, we find increases in massaveraged tropospheric NOx, O3, and OH concentrations of 7%, 4%, and 8% respectively. The increases in NOx and O3 concentrations bring the GEOS-CHEM simulation in better agreement with climatological observations. Citation: Evans, M. J., and D. J. Study of tropospheric ozone concentration trend of Kermanshah by meteorological parameter and ozone precursor and OMI images
Abstract: Clean air is a necessity for human well-being and health. Air pollution is a major threat to humans and other organisms and is considered as one of the environmental challenges. Today, with the increase in air pollution, the need to know more about the causes of its occurrence has been raised. The various consequences of air pollution have made air quality monitoring and control inev...
متن کاملImpact of the heterogeneous hydrolysis of N2O5 on chemistry and nitrate aerosol formation in the lower troposphere under photosmog conditions
[1] The impact of the heterogeneous hydrolysis of N2O5 on tropospheric gas phase and particle phase chemistry was investigated by performing model simulations with two comprehensive model systems and taking into account recent findings on the heterogeneous reaction probability of N2O5. Hereby, we focused on photosmog conditions in the lower troposphere. Chemistry box model runs were carried out...

[1] We have developed a global three-dimensional chemical transport model called Model of Ozone and Related Chemical Tracers (MOZART), version 2. This model, which will be made available to the community, is built on the framework of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Model of Atmospheric Transport and Chemistry (MATCH) and can easily be driven with various meteorological input...
متن کاملHeterogeneous Chemistry and Tropospheric Ozone
Ozone is produced in the troposphere by gas-phase oxidation of hydrocarbons and CO catalyzed by hydrogen oxide radicals (HOx ≡ OH + H + peroxy radicals) and nitrogen oxide radicals (NOx ≡ NO+NO2). Heterogeneous chemistry involving reactions in aerosol particles and cloud droplets may affect O3 concentrations in a number of ways including production and loss of HOx and NOx, direct loss of O3, an...
متن کاملThe Evaluation of Tropospheric Ozone Formation in the Downwind of the South Pars Industrial Zone
Hydrocarbon Processing Industries (HPIs) emit large amounts of highly reactive hydrocarbons and Nitrogen Oxides to the atmosphere. Such simultaneous emissions of ozone precursors result in rapid and high yields ozone (O3) formation downwind. The climate of the Middle East has been shown to be favorable for O3 formation in summer. There are also vast activities in processing oil and gas in this ...
